CULTCHA Clash Outer National and Selecta J-Cut present...

Boom! Tune of the Day

The Beatnigs "Television"

I had previously recorded Boom! Tune of the Day daily on Instagram, so I'll be recycling some of those tunes, as well as digging for new ones... enjoy!

The Beatnigs "Television" (Original Boom! Tune of the Day from January 31, 2017)

Today's Boom! Tune of the Day is "Television" by The Beatnigs, from their 1988 Alternative Tentacles single, Television.

This one is a still-relevant social commentary from the short lived San Francisco industrial band (front-man Michael Franti later formed The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy and now leads Spearhead).
This band made a huge impact on me with the metallic percussion / power tools / sampling and an amazing stage show, when I saw them at Lawrence, KS's The Outhouse.

This one is a satyrical take on televangelism, the tune was played to death at alternative clubs in both K.C. and Phoenix when I moved here 30 years ago.

This one is a satyrical take on a 1 per-center fantasyland, in which the neutron bomb is used to exterminate the undesirables.
