Boom! Tune of the Day

Triple Spin 'Stalag Riddim' Special

Big Youth "Jim Squashey"

Prince Far I "The Vision" &

Prince Far I & The Arabs "Back Weh"

Big Youth - Natty Cultural Dread (1976 Trojan Records)

I had previously recorded Boom! Tune of the Day daily on Instagram, so I'll be recycling some of those tunes, as well as digging for new ones... enjoy!

Today will be the first "triple spin" special, which features three tunes. This time all of the tracks are based on the 'Stalag Riddim', which has been popular in the dancehall for more than 35 years.

(All three were originally Boom! Tune Of The Day April 11, 2019).

The first is
Big Youth "Jim Squashey," from the 1976 Trojan Records LP, Natty Cultural Dread.

The second is Prince Far I "The Vision," from the 1980 Trojan Records LP, Jamaican Heroes.

Prince Far I & The Arabs - Cry Tuff Dub Encounter Chapter III (1980 Daddy Kool)

The third is Prince Far I & The Arabs "Back Weh," from the 1980 Daddy Kool LP, Cry Tuff Dub Encounter Chapter III.

These three tunes are versions of the 'Stalag Riddim,' two vocals and a dub.

Check here for more information on the origin and use of 'version,' or 'riddim,' an instrumental track, usually based upon the drum and bass of an original, which is repurposed, edited, effected and remixed, often for one or many recording artists to 'voice' their individual tunes on. The practice originated in Jamaica in the 1960's and has since impacted methods of music production for decades to come, world-wide.
