Dead Kennedys "Riot"

Dead Kennedys - Plastic Surgery Disasters (1983 Alternative Tentacles Records)

I had previously recorded Boom! Tune of the Day daily on Instagram, so I'll be recycling some of those tunes, as well as digging for new ones... enjoy!

Dead Kennedys "Riot" (Original Boom! Tune of the Day from July 5, 2017).

This one is from the first Hardcore Punk album that I ever heard, which was thrilling, from intro to outro...  The lyrics of this song deal with the unfortunate consequence of rioting that occurs when the militarized police forces move in with riot gear and tear gas, in the process confining most of destruction in the areas that can least afford to rebuild, or the very communities that are protesting the injustice, inequality and disenfranchisement, to begin with.
"Tomorrow you're homeless, tonight is a blast," the refrain carries the tune begrudgingly, yet exhaustedly, to it's end.
A legitimate warning, however, when all else fails, in the words of the great Martin Luther King, Jr., "a riot is the language of the unheard."

I had previously recorded Boom! Tune of the Day daily on Instagram, so I'll be recycling some of those tunes, as well as digging for new ones... enjoy!

Public Enemy "Louder Than A Bomb" (Original Boom! Tune of the Day from July 4, 2017).

Today's Boom! Tune of the Day is "Louder Than A Bomb" by Public Enemy, from their 1988 Def Jam Recordings LP, It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back.

This one is one of the many crucial, conscious cuts from their masterpiece sophomore album, which just turned 32 years old. This is one of the most influential Hip-Hop, if not any genre, albums, to me. I was 16 years old at the time, but was changed for life by it.

I selected this particular tune today for Flava Flav's moving introduction...
"They claim we're products from the bottom of hell,
'cause the Black is back and it's bound to sell.
Picture us coolin' out on the 4th of July...
and if you heard we were celebratin',
that's a world wide lie..."

Meat Beat Manifesto "God O.D." (Original Boom! Tune of the Day from July 2, 2017).

Today's Boom! Tune of the Day is "God O.D." by Meat Beat Manifesto, from the 1988 SweatboxWax Trax! Records 12" single, God O.D.

This one is another of the early singles that were to make up the Storm The Studio LP.  The band's usage of Hip-Hop / Funk / Industrial / Alternative / (Post) Punk / Acid-House made them one of my main influences when I started spinning. Over 30 years later, the name is still relevant in electronic music. Primary member, Jack Dangers, is still making unique and innovative sounds.
